HemoCue honors World Diabetes Day — November 14

November 14 is World Diabetes Day (WDD), observed annually on the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.

WDD was created in 1991 by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization and became an official United Nations Day in 2006.

Diabetes is a global epidemic and one of the leading causes of death. The number of people living with diabetes is rapidly increasing, placing a heavy burden on patients, healthcare professionals, and society. If left untreated, diabetes is associated with several complications, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Still, nearly half of all people with diabetes remain undiagnosed.

For HemoCue, WDD is a moment to reflect on the growing impact of diabetes worldwide and the importance of early detection and effective management.

To further highlight this day and promote accurate testing at the point of care for diabetes and glucose management, HemoCue is emphasizing the importance of regular HbA1c monitoring and how it empowers better diabetes management.

We’re supporting WDD by distributing “Awareness Packs” to channel partners — including a product sheet, diabetes flyer and educational materials — complemented by internal activities and social media promotion.
