Anemia screening at the point of care

What is chronic kidney disease (CKD)?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition characterized by a gradual loss of kidney function over time.

The kidneys play a crucial role in filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood, and as their function declines, it can lead to a variety of health issues, including anemia.

HemoCue® Hemoglobin Systems offer a fast, easy and inexpensive solution for nephrologists to monitor anemia and titrate ESAs to support patient safety.

Want to learn more about how point-of-care testing can improve clinical efficiency and enhance care for patients with CKD?

Point-of-care hemoglobin testing
for anemia monitoring and ESA titration

There are 37 million people with CKD in the US.1

Hb levels are an important safety concern when titrating medication and mitigating the risk of the boxed warning on ESA medications.

Many CKD patients take an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) to manage anemia, approx. 27% in CKD stage 3 and 43% in CKD stage 4.2

Under- and over-dosing a patient on ESAs can cause harm, therefore medication titration is extremely important.

Within the CKD community in the US, the prevalence of anemia is 15.4%, which represents an est. 4.8M people.3

Our accuracy

Accuracy always matters

Hemoglobin testing is often done as a part of a routine doctor visit or when a patient presents with symptoms of anemia.4

With a small drop of blood (approximately 10 microliters), the HemoCue® Hb 801 System determines an individual’s hemoglobin value in less than one second. Calibrated against the International Council for Standardization in Hematology (ICSH) reference method, the HemoCue® Hb 801 System provides lab-quality results in CLIA-waived settings.
