Partnership with Novo Nordisk

In February 2024, we entered a partnership with Novo Nordisk to improve point-of-care diagnostic testing for children with type 1 diabetes in low- and middle-income countries. The partnership supports Novo Nordisk’s Changing Diabetes® in Children (CDiC) programme, which provided free life-saving medicine to more than 52,000 children with type 1 diabetes in low-resource settings in 2023 and aims to reach 100,000 children by 2030.

The partnership means that HemoCue® HbA1c 501 Systems are placed in more than 400 clinics in 30 countries across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. HbA1c test is a blood test that measures the average blood sugar levels and a vital tool for effective diabetes management. HbA1c at the point of care mainly offers an opportunity for more timely treatment changes. With proper diabetes monitoring using HbA1c and subsequent compliance to treatment, fewer children may suffer the risk of diabetes-related complications.

With the monitoring of HbA1c, HemoCue supports local partners and end users to ensure the commitment to long-term sustainability and continuity of care.

Eradicating Anemia in India

Anemia is a serious global public health problem with lasting consequences on children’s lives. In the worst cases, it can lead to child mortality. In India, the data shows staggering prevalence numbers in the age group 0-19 years which has led to a commitment by the Government of India to eradicate anemia by 2047. HemoCue has partnered with India in the fight against anemia for over 10 years through various national public health initiatives.

The Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) program was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2018. The program aims to reduce the prevalence of anemia among various groups including children, adolescents and women of reproductive age by intensifying initiatives, strengthening the existing mechanisms and developing newer strategies for managing anemia.

HemoCue has supported the AMB program through various initiatives such as the T3 (Test, Treat and Talk) screening and intervention camps hosted by AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) throughout the country, one of the key strategies for AMB. The camps help test, monitor and track anemia rates among wider populations. They are also used as forums to educate people on lifestyle and diet changes to increase iron levels.
